Meet the Team

Shine Learning is full of friendly, welcoming faces to guide and help young students grow. Here's a little about us!

Miranda Donald

Bachelor of Arts (Performing Arts), Graduate Diploma of Education

I have a passion for everything Arts and anything English. I have enjoyed being a teacher for the past 25 years and I strongly believe in a hands-on, multi-skilled teaching style. I thrive in an environment that encompasses important learning while also being fun and enjoyable. I have a strong motto of “we learn by doing” and I strive to present engaging and enjoyable learning experiences.

I am Sounds Write practitioner and thoroughly enjoy teaching this program to children of all ages. The format of one-on-one tuition is highly effective and results in positive learning, growth and most importantly increased confidence. Sounds Write is a highly structured, synthetic phonics program that is cumulative and evidence-based. It is a fantastic way of
learning and teaches how the alphabetic code works and subsequently empowers students with the skills to become effective readers and spellers.

I am a registered teacher and my interests are live theatre, community work, volunteering, writing plays, spending time with my family, and walking my dogs.

Carley Young

Maths Specialist

Carley joins Shine Learning as a fully qualified and registered teacher, specialising in Maths and Science.  Carley currently teaches at Damascus College and enjoys the one-on-one experience of tutoring students.  Carley loves animals and keeping fit and hopes to assist all of those who take part in her engaging lessons.

Sarah Mann

Primary Maths and English

I graduated from Federation University with a Bachelor of Psychological Science in 2021 and have just commenced a Masters in primary teaching which I am absolutely loving. I work at Base1270, a before and after school care program in Buninyong where I found my passion for working with children and watching them learn and grow. I have a large interest in the psychology behind learning and behaviours and love putting my knowledge in these areas into practice when working with children and seeing their personal development. In my spare time I enjoy baking, going to the beach, and going to the theatre!

Generalist Teacher Prep-6

Jess joins Shine Learning as a fully qualified and registered generalist teacher (primary years) who has been teaching for 10 years.   Jess currently teaches at Buninyong Primary School and enjoys connecting with her students and helping them continue to shine through their learning journey. When Jess isn’t working, she enjoys spending quality time with her family and going on adventures.

Jessica Micallef

Violet Cotsell

I am currently studying to be a Secondary English/LOTE teacher at Deakin University. Graduating from Ballarat Grammar in 2020, I have four years of experience as a private tutor for local Ballarat families. Alongside private tutoring, I work for Deakin University as a Literature tutor for first-year students, and at a local law firm as a paralegal.

I am passionate about teaching English to high school students of all ages and abilities. My approach is hands-on, patient and caring. I believe that learning to read, understand and write about literature is a certain kind of magic that everyone should have the privilege of experiencing.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, cooking and spending time with family. I look forward to meeting you soon!
